Splice Byte XD-300
Until 2004, when Ismenio Sousa discovered this particular Splice Byte somewhere deep in the Amazon Basin, this make of chess computer was virtually unknown. Even Ismenio’s Brazilian friends knew nothing about it. Since then a few Splice Bytes have been unearthed, but it is still an exceptionally rare chess computer. The Splice Byte was an illegal clone of the Fidelity Chess Challenger 7, produced in 1982 during a period when Brazilian industry made such items, protected from imports.
To get the Byte working Ismenio opened it up and substituted some Fidelity CC7 components, since when it has also needed some attention from Arno Kreuzberg. It is now fully functional and has a different character to the CC7 due to the softer touch Byte keypad and higher spec speaker.
This Splice Byte comes with an original manual (in Portuguese) and box, a power supply provided by Arno and a set of CC7 pieces.
As this was received as a generous gift from Ismenio all proceeds from it’s sale will go to the Haiti Appeal (or charity of your choice).
