This Mephisto Monte Carlo was flashing LEDs apparently randomly and I could not get it to work. The symptoms were similar to the Novag Constellation which I luckily got working again. Therefore there seemed a chance that the problem here was also a loose or faulty ribbon cable. Opening the chess computer up revealed no obvious problem and after having a good hunt around for potential causes I reassembled the Monte Carlo and switched on with an air of optimism.
Not only did I not solve the problem but things were much worse. The chess computer seemed to expire altogether. Nothing I did revived it.
The pictures are here for information purposes, and to remind me in case I get too confident of mending something again.
