Fidelity Designer 2325 Master

The Designer 2325 Master (Model 6129) was one of the last models produced by Fidelity, and it was Fidelity’s strongest apart from the Vancouver program in the Elite Premiere and some extraordinarily expensive special order Elite Avant Gardes. It is currently rated at 2125 Elo (Active Chess).

It has similar software and hardware to the Elite Avant Garde v.6 and the Excel Mach IV Master with a 68020 processor running at 20 MHz, 64 KB ROM, 512 KB RAM, a Spracklen program and a 28,000 ply opening book.

The 2325 Master for sale is in good used condition and includes the standard issue Mephisto type leather case, the original chesspieces, manual (in English), and adaptor (US type). It works correctly, with either the adaptor (included) or 4 x AA batteries (not included).

Elektronika IM-01T

The Elektronika IM-01T dates from 1992. You can read about it on my ‘Rare’ section webpage (link) which includes more photos of the actual item for sale. A brief review of Soviet Bloc chess computers can also be found here (link). Whilst more IM-01Ts are now being seen on Ebay it is still a very rare chess computer outside Russia.

This IM-01T comes with the set of pieces shown in the photo (left), also the original perspex lid which has cracks but is still strong and usable and the original manual, which has seen better days but is complete and readable. Trying to translate a Russian manual using IPhone or IPad scanning just one of the joys of owning a Russian chess computer.

The IM-01T is in only moderate condition and as usual there is no rear compartment lid. However is fully working and with a good range of features it is an interesting and enjoyable chess computer to play.

SciSys Chess Partner 6000

The Chess Partner 6000 seems to be very rare. To the extent that nobody in the online chess computer community seemed to have one in their collection or had mentioned seeing one up until April 2008. Since when several have been sold on Ebay. Three appear in the website collection lists of Eric Belot, Maurice Ohayon and Nick Milichev. I have my collection example, also a faulty one (battery compartment corrosion) which I hope to mend and this one for sale. Perhaps six known examples up to now? There will be more, but how many?

The Chess Partner 6000 has a singlechip 4bit processor, the Hitachi HD44801, the same as other machines in the Chess Partner series and the Travel Sensor. From the chess point of view it is a beginners machine.

The item for sale comes with the box, chesspieces and manual (in English/German/French/Dutch/Italian/ Spanish and Swedish). It is in full working order and runs off 3 x AA batteries (not included).

Excalibur Phantom Force (Sharper Image version)

The Excalibur Phantom Force was sold by catalogue company The Sharper Image and was branded for them. However the chess computer is exactly the same machine as the Excalibur Phantom Force. It is a chess robot which works via motors, belts and x and y-axis rods which move a magnet under the press sensory surface picking up and dropping off pieces to make the chess computer’s moves. The Phantom Force has an Active Chess rating of 1599 Elo, but it also plays at fun levels which would suit beginners.

The item for sale is in original nearly new condition throughout. It is fully working and comes with the box, packaging, chesspieces, manual and adaptor (US type). It also works with 6 x C batteries (not included).

Saitek Kasparov Prisma

The Saitek Prisma, was a replacement for the Simultano, dating from 1990. Apart from its faster processor speed it is very similar to the RadioShack Chess Champion 2150L. At Active Chess it is rated at 1787.

This one is in very good condition with signs of light wear only. It is fully working, and works with an adaptor or 6 x C batteries (not supplied).

The Prisma comes with the original set of chesspieces and manual, as shown.

Sharper Image Talking Chess Companion

The Talking Chess Companion is actually a Fidelity Little Chesster version 2. The one with 25 levels. You can find information about it in an article I wrote for Schachcomputer.info Wiki (link).

It would be a mistake to underestimate the Talking Chess Companion. It has a version of the Fidelity Excellence program by Dan & Kathe Spracklen, with an estimated rating of 1700 Elo. It also has the full vocabulary, tuition and entertainment options of its big brothers the Chesster Challenger and Phantom Chesster including 345 phrases.

The one for sale is in nearly new condition. It comes with the box, packaging, original chess pieces and a copy of the Chesster manual. It runs off either an adaptor or 4 x AAA batteries (not supplied).

I also have a RadioShack Talking Chess Computer (1900L), which is basically exactly the same machine, with box, packaging, original chesspieces and manual for £10 less.
It is fully working but has had rather more wear.

Conchess Monarch

This Conchess Monarch comes with the standard program module, set of chesspieces, power supply (Euro plug) and copy manual. The program is by Ulf Rathsmann, and is rated 1554 Elo at Active Chess by Schachcomputer.info Wiki.

The Monarch is working correctly including all reed switches, LEDs and control buttons.

SciSys Intelligent Chess

This Intelligent Chess is complete and fully working. It  is in very good condition and includes the box, power supply, TV lead, cassette tape and manual (in German). A copy manual in English can also be supplied.

Mephisto Mobil Board

The item for sale is just the board, the box and chesspieces, not the program module which is shown in two pictures below to demonstrate that the Mobil board is fully working.

The Mobil board, which is in good condition, can be used with a number of Mephisto modules - Mirage, MM1, MMIV, MMV, Roma II and Rebell 5.0. It can run off a 9V battery or HGN5001 adaptor or similar (not included).

Systema Talking Chess Professor

This model is similar to the Tiger Chess Voice Master. It features a voice teaching mode, player rating system and 5,000 move opening book. It is well built, comes with an informative manual and might suit someone who is improving beyond the beginner stage.

This one is in very good condition, fully working and comes with the box, chesspieces and manuals (in English). It requires 4 x AA batteries (not supplied).

SciSys Electronic Chess Mark 8

This model is hard to find. It is similar to the more numerous SciSys Concord and has the same 4K Kaare Danielsen program, which would give it an Active Chess rating of around 1250 Elo.

This one comes with the box, chesspieces and manual. It runs off 4 x AA batteries or adaptor (not supplied) and is in full working order.

Tryom CC-700 Electronic Chess

A calculator style chess computer with separate wooden chessboard dating from 1981. Very retro. The program seems to have its origins in the CompuChess stable. The display is Boris Diplomatesque. The company Tryom Inc. also made at least one type of calculator and a Backgammon game called Omar.

This Electronic Chess is complete with box, manual, chess board and pieces as shown in the photo and is working correctly. It runs from a 9V battery or adaptor (not supplied). Whilst not difficult to find in the USA the Tryom is fairly rare in Europe.

CXG Computachess III

The CXG Computachess III dates from 1984. It contains Kaare Danielsen’s 4K program rated on this machine at 1423 Elo (Source - Schachcomputer.info).

This one is fully working. It runs on 4 ‘AA’ batteries or adaptor (not supplied). Included are the chess pieces and a copy of the manual.

Fidelity Gambit Voice

The Gambit Voice dates from around 1987. It has a Ron Nelson program and a dubious Wiki rating of 1300 Elo. Unlike the other basic Fidelity machines, such as the Sensory 8 and Classic, it has a voice.

This one comes with the box, chesspieces and manual. It is fully working and uses either an adaptor or 4 x C batteries (not supplied).

SciSys Chess Partner 4000

The Chess Partner 4000 features an unusual method for setting the level of play, a sliding lever. Although a mass market beginner’s machine they are not easy to find these days, especially with the box.

This one includes the box, a set of original pieces and manual. It is fully working.

Mephisto Europa

Also known as the Mephisto Schachschule, the Europa is rated at 1712 Elo (Schachcomputer.info Active rating). Strong enough to give an average club player a good game.

This one comes with the box, original chess pieces, manual and tuition book (both in German). It is in very good fully working condition with minimal wear. The box is complete but scruffy.The Europa works off a HGN5001 adaptor, or similar, or 4 AA batteries (not supplied).

Mephisto II Brickett with Mephisto I module

This item is a standard Mephisto II brikett, but it has a Mephisto I program module, which means it functions like a Mephisto I. It is working correctly and requires either a HG4200 adaptor or 4 AA batteries (not supplied).

 Excalibur Deluxe Talking Touch Chess

Not many worthwhile new chess computers have been added to the ranks in the last decade, but this is one of them. Thanks to its portability, touchscreen and stylus, range of features, strong 1611 Elo program (Source - Schachcomputer.info), voice (English, French, German), sturdy construction and modest price the Deluxe Talking Touch Chess is an attractive portable option. Previously sold for £79.95, retailers no longer have these for sale.

This example is in very good condition and works perfectly on just two ‘AAA’ batteries. It comes with the case, stylus and manual.

CXG Sphinx Chesscard

Dating from 1989 the Chesscard is a classic ultra-portable of its time. It contains a Mark Taylor 4-bit program.

This one includes the original packaging, copy manual, battery, chessboard and magnetic pieces. It is in good condition and fully working.

Novag Micro II

The Novag Micro II is an early portable dating from 1982.
It has a Dave Kittinger program and faster hardware than the original Novag Micro.

This one comes with the perspex lid, chesspieces and a copy of the manual (in German). It runs off 4 x AA batteries or adaptor (not supplied) and is in very good fully working condition.

SciSys Explorer

The Explorer is one of the nicest portables built in the first few years of chess computer production, in terms of looks, solid functional design, handy size and features. It also has the 4K Kaare Danielsen program.

This one comes as it is with the perspex lid and chesspieces, including spare pawns and queens. It is in very good, fully functional condition and works with 3 x AA batteries (not supplied).

Fidelity Mini Sensory CC + Advanced Cartridge

This Mini Sensory has the addition of an Advanced Cartridge which gives 6 levels (rather than 4), a hint function, thinking on opponent’s time, takeback, and a small opening book. Both the Mini Sensory and Advanced Cartridge are working correctly. In the photo below the Mini Sensory is signalling Level 5.

Fidelity Travel Master

This Travel Master is faulty although you will see from the photographs that some functions are working. Please go to my webpage on the Travel Master for background information (link).

Fidelity Sensory 12B (Model 6086)

This Sensory 12B has a faulty sensory surface. It is possible to start a game, as in the example pictured, but some squares (example b8) and keys do not respond to presses. In other respects the chess computer is fully working as far as I am aware and is in good condition.

It comes with the plastic chesspieces shown, adaptor (US type) and copy manual.
